Pleasantry at the Pheasantry
22nd August 2015
Enjoy a pleasant afternoon at our garden party
An afternoon garden party featuring delicious food, live music and games is being held in Scarborough to raise much-needed funds for us.
Pleasantry at the Pheasantry on Saturday 22 August from noon until 5pm is being held in aid of Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind (SWR Mind) - a life-saving charity that supports vulnerable people with mental illness each year across the local area.
The money-spinner at the Pheasantry B&B in Nettledale Lane, Snainton YO13 9PW, will feature stalls, live acoustic music, garden games including croquet, dominoes and rounders, a barbecue, cakes, refreshments and cream teas.
There will also be a grand raffle to raise funds with a host of prizes up for grabs including a meal at Pizza Express, a night’s stay at the Grand Hotel in Scarborough, M&S vouchers, a family ticket for North Bay Railway and tickets for the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
Sophie Hall, Head of Services for SWR Mind, who is organising the fund-raiser said: “We thought it would be a nice chilled relaxing afternoon. What’s more quintessentially British than a cream scone and a pot of tea?
“We really hope people will come and join us and help us raise as much cash as possible for our charity. Every penny raised will be used to continue helping change people’s lives.”
SWR Mind has existed for more than 50 years on the Yorkshire Coast and is not funded by charity shops.
We run a telephone helpline, support groups in Scarborough and Whitby, a one to one side by side support service and gives advice to people about a whole range of issues including housing and debt.
We were aved from closure earlier this year after an overwhelming flood of donations from the public and it is now desperate for support to secure its long term future.
Entry to Pleasantry at the Pheasantry is by donation and parking is free of charge.
Around 40,000 people – that's one in four people living in Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale - will experience mental health difficulties at some time in their lives.
We are the only charity in the area to take urgent referrals from other services for people suffering from illnesses including anxiety, depression, lifelong illnesses such as Bipolar and Schizophrenia, and those experiencing psychosis or battling an eating disorder.
SWR Mind can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SWRMind1, follow them on Twitter @swrmind1 or log onto their website www.swrmind.org.uk.
