Brave fund-raisers wanted for charity challenges
1st September 2015
We are looking for people up for a challenge of a lifetime to raise funds for us.
Ever fancied the exhilaration of a sky dive or a trip of a lifetime trekking along one of the seven Wonders of the World, the Great Wall of China?
Mental health charity Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale Mind is looking for people who are up for a thrilling challenge who would like to raise much needed funds for their local community while seeing the world.
The charity, that provides life-saving support to 1,000 people every year living with mental illness, was saved from closure earlier this year.
It is now asking people to sign up to one of a number of sponsored activities in a bid to help it continue running its seven life-changing projects including support groups, a telephone helpline and a side by side support service, run by staff and dedicated volunteers.
The money-spinning activities taking place this year and in 2016 include climbing one of the world’s highest mountains – Kilimanjaro, a trek through the diverse scenery of Peru, walking through the mesmerising landscapes of the Sahara desert or hiking along part of the 5,500 mile ancient Great Wall of China.
For those who’d prefer travelling on two wheels, there are a number of options including a scenic cycle ride from two of the world most chic cities London to Paris.
By raising a minimum of £350 in sponsorship, people can do adrenalin pumping free fall tandem sky dive from an aeroplane at a height of 10,000 feet.
Head of Services for SWR Mind Sophie Hall said: “We have an abundance of fund-raising activities people can take part in - not only are they hugely rewarding to those taking part but our charity will received a great boost financially.
“Mental health shatters lives. Every penny people raise over the minimum sponsorship will go to supporting local people step on the road to recovery and rebuild their lives.”
Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale Mind, a charity that has been established on the Yorkshire Coast for more than 50 years, is also looking for local community groups, businesses, friends and individuals to hold fund-raisers for them.
