Our thanks for donations following £1,000 charity theft
4th May 2016
We would like to thank people for more than £300 in donations after ‘cruel’ thieves stole almost £1,000 from our fund-raising stall at Whitby Goth Weekend.
The theft happened between 5pm and 5.30pm on Saturday 23 April from a charity stall run by volunteers from Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale Mind (SWR Mind), next to the bar in the café seating area at Whitby Pavilion.
The money was raised over two days from the sale of clothing including many donated goth items such as corsets and dresses and was contained in a black bum bag with a silver clasp that was attached to the back of a chair.
Sophie Hall, Chief Executive at SWR Mind added: “We’d like to thank every single person who donated to us following the news of the theft from our fund-raising stall.
“Sadly the money has not been returned to us but we’ve been assured by Whitby Police that they are continuing to investigate the theft.
“We are still in shock as to how anyone could be so cruel as to steal from a charity. If anyone saw anything that they might think will help the investigation please get in touch with police.”
Unfortunately the area where the stall was held in Whitby Pavilion is not covered by CCTV footage.
Anyone who has information about the theft is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting reference number NYP 2404016-00226.
If anyone would like to make a donation to the charity, which was saved from closure last year and helps local people living in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale, they can do so by calling (01723) 588008, visitingwww.swrmind.org.uk or via Just Giving.justgiving.com/swrmind
