SUMMARY:Filey Poetry Appreciation Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:Taking place on the First Friday of the month from 1-2.30pm at Filey Library\, our Poetry Appreciation Group is a fun\, informal group where we get together\, discover and share the pleasure of looking at classic and modern poetry. We are a reading group and we read poetry borrowed from the libraries or our staff and volunteer’s collections and discuss them. No pressure to read out loud! We’ll look at the poem and decide if we like the poem\, if we understand the poem\, if it even is a poem. No prior experience or love of poetry is required!! \n\n\n\nPoetry allows individuals to explore thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to articulate in conversation. Writing or reading poetry can help people explore emotions such as grief\, anxiety\, depression\, or anger. \n\n\n\nOur poetry groups are for anyone who wants to enjoy the written word and meet up with friendly and welcoming individuals. If you’d like to attend but have any anxieties about walking into the room or getting introduced\, just let us know in advance and we can arrange a volunteer to meet you outside and a member to make all introductions to the group! No charge but donations always welcome towards the ongoing running of the group at https://www.justgiving.com/swrmind

SUMMARY:Lucy's Legacy Fun Dog Show
DESCRIPTION:Raising funds for SWR Mind\, join the Lucy’s Legacy team for a fun\, family friendly dog show at Beadlam Grange Farm Shop. You can sign up for classes on the day; if you would like to book a walk and farm tour including a breakfast bap and cuppa with farm owner Mark Rooke\, please contact Faye on 0779 268 0540 or Holly on 0739 583 3910 in advance of the event. (£10 per person\, £25 family ticket\, walk begins at 10am.) \n\n\n\nLucy’s Legacy was created in honour of Lucy Pearson who sadly lost her life to suicide in September 2024. Leaving behind her husband and two young children. Lucy suffered with postnatal depression and her family and friends feel that the services that should have helped Lucy sadly failed her. After her passing Lucy’s Legacy was born\, with the aim of raising awareness and vital funds to support those suffering with postnatal depression and maternal mental health related illnesses. We are taking action against the postcode lottery of perinatal care in our area. Having a baby is a transformative experience which affects nearly every aspect of your life\, this can affect your mental health in many ways. Lucy’s Legacy and our collaboration with Scarborough\, Whitby & Ryedale Mind is here to help navigate that change and break the stigma of discussing mental health\, so that no other family suffers this tragedy. \n\n\n\nFunds raised from Lucy’s Legacy events will be used for a range of initiatives to support maternal mental health such as a maternal mental health guide\, website\, training package and counselling for women experiencing maternal mental health issues. To find out more about Lucy’s Legacy\, check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566885396819

SUMMARY:Scarborough Poetry Appreciation Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:Taking place on the second Monday of the month from 1-2.30pm at Scarborough Library\, our Poetry Appreciation Group is a fun\, informal group where we get together\, discover and share the pleasure of looking at classic and modern poetry. No charge but donations always welcome towards the ongoing running of the group at https://www.justgiving.com/swrmind
